At Casa de Vista, we love adding little touches of fun and personality to make our home feel special for our guests. One of the most colorful and playful features of our property is our Directional Signs—a whimsical collection of hand-painted signs pointing to destinations both real and imaginative! These signs add a pop of color to our space, bring a sense of adventure, and make for some fun photo opportunities.
Why We Created Directional Signs
The idea behind our directional signs was simple: we wanted to bring island charm, creativity, and a sense of wonder to our vacation home. I had seen these types of signs before and always thought they were so cool—Casa de Vista needed one … or maybe three … possibly more!
We had excess wood planks—some broken pieces from Casa de Vista projects and some collected from around the island, including washed-up wood from the beach or alongside the road. So, the plan for our next project was a Directional Sign!
The Making of Our Signs
A hurricane created the perfect post to hold these signs. Right by the front door of Casa de Vista, a palm tree that Hurricane Maria (2017) got a hold of became the ideal base. But that was okay—it became the perfect place for my signs. My mom (Nanny) and I created the original version together, and while I was the one to push over the tree in 2020, I’m so glad I did it—at least I wouldn’t have to be mad at anyone else for it!
As you can see, the first version of the signpost didn’t hold up well, so we rebuilt it—bigger and stronger … Thanks, Blake & Brian! This time, we set a proper post, dug a deep hole, and secured it with cement. It wasn’t going anywhere! A hurricane or hurricane “beth” isn’t taking this one down!
What You’ll Find on Our Directional Signs
Each sign is hand-painted with bright, tropical colors to match the vibrant energy of St. Croix. Of course, the Caribbean sun means we’ll have to do some touch-ups every now and then! Some of the destinations you’ll find include:
- Christiansted & Frederiksted – Our two lively towns full of history, shopping, and great dining.
- The Buccaneer & Carambola – Two must-visit beaches for relaxation and adventure.
- Your Happy Place – Because, of course, Casa de Vista should always be your happy place!
- Rum Tasting Ahead – A little nudge to visit our signature Cruzan Rum tasting station inside.
We also installed poolside directional signs, but these serve another purpose—they double as lighting for the pool deck! Whether it’s night swimming for the kids or a peaceful evening of relaxation, these signs help set the mood with their subtle illumination.
A Fun, Interactive Touch
These signs are more than just décor—they’re an interactive experience for our guests. Many visitors love to take photos with their favorite signs, and we encourage guests to suggest new destinations for future signs!
