One of the best ways to make your vacation rental home stick out from the competition and feel FUN is decorating with a splash of color. How can lots of color be added to the large open spaces and walls in the rooms of your vacation rental? What about the harsh elements on the island? Can you set a reasonable decoration budget for your vacation home?

We are on an island, and we must deal with the elements such as heat, humidity, salt spray, and the very strong sun rays. All of these can be hard on the items on the outside and the inside of the house. Yes, you didn’t think about things inside the villa, but these elements affect everything.

And, what about artwork? How much do you want to spend when putting something into a rental? How much do you want to spend if the elements are hard on the items in your villa?

We are happy with our quick, inexpensive fix and couldn’t be more excited with the end result! We bought pre-printed fabric, built lightweight frames, upholstered the art, and hung it on our walls.

Here’s what you need, and feel free to give it a try yourself. For your vacation rental home, you can make a big impact by decorating with a splash of color. Use your creativity and have fun with it – We Did!!

Material Needed:

  • Printed Fabric – ordered from Society6, Amazon, and Houzz (or just google and search)
  • Standard 1 x 2 Wood Stock (need to use a lighter weight wood – 2 x 4s are too heavy) – cut to the length needed for your project (or slightly smaller than the size of your cloth so that you have room to pull it over the wood and staple it)
  • Batting (same size as the Printed Fabric)
  • Screws – (you will need them to build a frame and connect the boards)
  • Drill and Screwdriver
  • A Square
  • Staple Gun & Staples
  • Wood – to make a Wall Cleat (Wall Anchors & Screws needed to attach the Cleat to the Wall.) 

And now … Upholster Away!!

Our Property Manager, Marti, told us that a Vacation St Croix potential renter had their villa choices narrowed down to 2 of her available rentals. Guess what broke the tie for this particular guest?
