POWER/ELECTRICITY … It’s A Good Thing!!
On Island, the power can be a bit unreliable and you will hear the locals make “WAPA Comments”. The electricity going out is just part of island life … whether it is weather related or a possible WAPA (Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority) issue.
I can tell you that I wasn’t very excited about putting in a generator because there is not much to see with this particular home improvement project. The things that I like to do, this isn’t. It’s not a pretty color or fun to play with, but it is POWER!! And ELECTRICITY runs the lights, hair dryers, appliances, and most importantly the fans and air conditioning. So, I should get excited. A generator could be a good thing … right?!?
When we started to plan for our island vacation rental, we knew from experience that a generator was something that we wanted for ourselves and for our guests. This could be something that could set our vacation rental apart from other vacation rentals. We also knew that it wasn’t going to be an inexpensive improvement. So some planning and reprioritizing took place to make this improvement happen.
When the electricity goes out just sit back and relax, the generator’s transfer switch will click on with no real interruption. No battery-operated lanterns or candles are needed to get around in the house. When the electricity does come back on, the transfer switch will do its job once again and the generator will then turn off. Pretty convenient … no one has to do a thing.
No matter the issue, weather, or WAPA … the long and short of it is that we needed a generator. In June of 2023, 4 years into our journey of owning our vacation rental we took the plunge … LET THERE BE POWER/ELECTRICITY AT CASA DE VISTA!!
