Nestled in the back of The Secret Garden, right off of the Master Bathroom, you will find your very own – Private – Outdoor Shower. What a wonderful and unique Caribbean experience for you to enjoy every day during your stay at Casa de Vista. Details … details … details, we are always thinking of our guests. We added this feature just for you to have and enjoy. It’s one of the things that we enjoyed, at a past vacation rental in St John, when we were on our own journey to owning a vacation home rental.
The Outdoor Shower is tucked away in a secluded area. It is surrounded by lush island greenery, palms, and a mature flamboyant tree. The beautiful island foliage, potted plants, and a stone wall complete this outdoor area. There are hooks to hang your towel on and shampoo & conditioner to use. If you brought your own products, there is a beautiful little antique table to hold all of your goodies. A bright-colored mirror, shelves, plants (fake & real), tropical decorations, and a wooden bench round out our unique little Caribbean space.
As part of our Master Bathroom renovation, the Caribbean Outdoor Shower came to be. A beautiful open space off of our master bathroom got the wheels to turn in our heads. This could really become that outdoor shower that we were hoping to include at Casa de Vista. We had a few things to accomplish but were very doable.
Make your Caribbean Outdoor Shower Happen
- The first thing that happened was to get the plumbing out into the space. Because of where we positioned the shower plumbing in the Master Bathroom, we were able to bring the plumbing right outside on the same wall.
- Two cement pads were poured. A small pad was poured first to hold the propane gas containers for the dryer which had been relocated from the kitchen. A larger pad was then poured for the shower area.
- Extra – Extra!! We used the same tile in each of the three interior bathrooms and so we had some leftovers. We used this excess tile to continue the same look to our Outdoor Shower. (The area turned out beautiful! It honestly looks like the indoor Master Bathroom just continues out into the Secret Garden.)
- We built lattice screens to hide and provide some more privacy for this shower area. They hide the propane gas containers and block the sight line from the front door/parking area.
- Next, we added some “additional things”. I painted a mirror that I bought from The Women’s Coalition of St Croix – The Home Store. The bright tropical color was exactly what that area needed. We hung a shelf on the lattice screen to hold any personal items you might need and added a small table from The Hunt (245 Estate Glynn, Midland Rd) for shampoo, conditioner, and towels.
- We added the crushed stone around the cement pad to bring the entire area up to grade. We finished the walkway with new stepping stones.
- And finally, we continue to trim and maintain the landscaping in this area (and around Casa de Vista). It is an ongoing job. Everything…GROWS LIKE CRAZY in the Caribbean.
There are Benefits of Having an Outdoor Shower
There can be so many benefits to having an Outdoor Shower. Take advantage of this opportunity while you are here visiting Casa de Vista on your vacation. Take a private moment all to yourself after a day of exploring St Croix. Relax and enjoy the refreshing water of the shower as you close your eyes and listen to the island sounds all around you. If the family returns from a day at the beach, head those kids right to the Outdoor Shower to wash off those sandy feet.
The Caribbean Outdoor Shower at Casa de Vista is there and ready for you to enjoy. Take my word for it, after you have experienced our Secret Garden … you may never want to leave!

Like my Granny used to say, “You have to go home so that you can come back again” and we hope that you really enjoy your stay at Casa de Vista and want to plan another trip back. Don’t forget … you’ll get to use the Outdoor Shower AGAIN!
Island Learning: Here’s what I learned with this one …
- The crushed stone is sharp (It had just come from the island rock crusher) … the stepping stones help when you are headed back to The Secret Garden barefooted.
- Think about where you place your wind chime. Our wind chime is very quiet! It gets no wind. I guess we need to move it!
- Support Local Businesses. Search items out, you don’t always need something new. It’s amazing what some fun (bright tropical-colored) paint can do to spruce up a “new to you” piece. My favorite place to look for things is The St Croix Animal Welfare Center – Flea Market.
- We are in the process of using pots in this area to keep the island’s growth under control.
- Even the Outdoor Shower is a great place for a photo op:
