Our dream of owning a home in the Caribbean had finally come true after years of planning. Little did we know that the journey that we were on was only just beginning. Much like having a child and a family, the hard work was about to begin. But before we could “take the baby home from the hospital” (or put a name on our home for the vacation rental market) … we needed a name for that structure that sat at the top of La Grande Princesse Hill.
I went right to work with my BFF (Sherry) brainstorming a list of possible options. We were actually on a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach in North Carolina, a perfect place to get in the beach/ocean mood for ideas. The list started and seemed to flow but nothing seemed right at that moment. Little did I know, the name that we were searching for was in plain sight the whole time.
Many trips to the top of the hill were taken and much work was going to have to be done before it was time to put our home up for weekly vacation rentals. There was lots to do on the inside and the outside. With plans in my mind, we started to work and we discussed … NAMES!! None of the brainstormed names were right … either someone in the family gave it a “no go” or there was already a vacation home with that name on the island. I wanted to make sure that ours was unique and hopefully, the only one on the island so that there is no confusion if someone wanted to rent with us.
We were waiting for the house to speak to us. We walked the front and back areas. We needed to give this place some love … but it needed a name too.
Then I remembered what we wanted most in our vacation rental:
- The beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea and the tropical landscape
- We were looking for a U.S. Property (U.S. Taxes, U.S. Contract Law, and U.S. Healthcare)
- Ease of access … getting from the mainland to the island
- Laid-back atmosphere
- Friendly people and a welcoming community
- Lots of activities … for all ages
What was the #1 most important thing for us? What do we want to enjoy more than anything when we are on the island? The name of our house had been there for us every time that we were there … right in front of our eyes … THE VIEW!!
From the first time we walked into this house and every time after. Even when our guests walk into this house, they are drawn to THE VIEW right outside those 3 big sliders opposite the front door. It seems fitting … to be called … “Casa de Vista” because it truly is a “house with a view”.
