So … What’s the Name Going to BE?

Our dream of owning a home in the Caribbean had finally come true after years of planning. What we didn’t realize was that this was only the beginning of the adventure. Much like starting a family, the real work was just about to begin. Before we could “bring the baby home” (or share our home as a vacation rental), we needed to give it a name—a name worthy of the house perched high on La Grande Princesse Hill.

I went right to work with my BFF (Sherry) brainstorming a list of possible options. We were actually on a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach in North Carolina, a perfect place to get in the beach/ocean mood for ideas. The list started and seemed to flow, but nothing seemed right at that moment. Little did I know, the name that we were searching for was in plain sight the whole time.

Many trips to the top of the hill were taken, and much work needed to be done before it was time to put our home up for weekly vacation rentals. There was a lot to do on the inside and the outside. With plans in my mind, we started to work and we discussed … NAMES!! None of the brainstormed names was correct. Either someone in the family gave it a “no go” or there was already a vacation home with that name on the island. Our family wanted to make sure that ours was unique and hopefully, the only one on the island, to avoid any confusion if someone wanted to rent with us. We were waiting for the house to speak to us. We walked the front and back areas. We needed to give this place some love … but it needed a name too.

Then I remembered what we wanted most in our vacation rental:

  • The beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea and the tropical landscape
  • We were looking for a U.S. Property (U.S. Taxes, U.S. Contract Law, and U.S. Healthcare)
  • Ease of access … getting from the mainland to the island
  • Laid-back atmosphere
  • Friendly people and a welcoming community
  • Lots of activities … for all ages

What was the #1 most important thing for us? What do we want to enjoy more than anything when we are on the island? The name of our house had been there for us every time that we were there … right in front of our eyes … THE VIEW!!

The Name Is …

From the first time we walked into this house and every time after. Even when our guests walk into this house, they are drawn to THE VIEW right outside those three big sliders opposite the front door. It seems fitting … to be called … “Casa de Vista” because it truly is a “house with a view”.
